Making AJAX Applications Crawlable

Google Code is providing you with the info about making your AJAX applications crawlable. If you're running an AJAX application with content that you'd like to appear in search results, we have a new process that, when implemented, can help Google (and potentially other search engines) crawl and index your content. Historically, AJAX applications have been difficult for search engines to process because AJAX content is produced dynamically by the browser and thus not visible to crawlers. While there are existing methods for dealing with this problem, they involve regular manual maintenance to keep the content up-to-date.
Here at Google Code, you can find the details how to and examples with documentations, about incorporating the scenario.

One Sure-Fire Way to Improve Your Coding

Here I found another good article discussing the improvements in coding...saying:
The most obvious way to improve your coding is to write more code. Everybody knows that. However, another activity which I guarantee will improve your coding is the complete opposite of writing. I will state this as plainly as I possibly can:
If you want to dramatically increase your programming skills you need to be reading other people’s code.
Maybe you believe that, maybe you don’t. You should. And if you’re willing to give it a shot, I believe you will be rewarded greatly for your time.
In this article I will help you choose what to read and give you practical advice on how to go about reading it. If you’re already a code reader you may find a few ways to get more from your efforts. If you aren’t, you absolutely must read on.

DotNetNuke(DNN) source in C#

Shaun first launched DotNetNuke on December 24, 2002.  I don’t think it’s a stretch to suggest that the first inquiry about a C# version came in on about December 25.  And they have continued to come in on a fairly regular basis igniting all sorts of “language wars” which continue to this day.  Scott Wiltamuth is the Microsoft Product Unit Manager for Visual Studio Languages and recently described the co-evolution of VB and C# from his point of view.

Right now, there are published packages of the C# source for version 5.4.1 and 5.4.2.  The team is working on adding this packaging to our automated build process so that new packages can be created quickly once the conversion has been done.  A normal turnaround should be just a few days after each regular release.
I personally prefer Telerik's Sitefinity CMS due to ease of use, however, the C# port of DNN might help some developers in producing better Websites/CMS.

Here's the entire story...

Extending NerdDinner: Adding MEF and plugins to ASP.NET MVC

The original NerdDinner Sample was very simple. Two samples, simple, in fact. Perhaps it's the new Northwind, as it's a good way to start working with ASP.NET MVC. However, it's not a perfect sample or an idealized example on how to do many things that users want to do.
Fortunately, there's been lots of cool folks in the community who have "forked" NerdDinner and done interesting stuff with it. Each of these samples is usually focused on a specific scenario, so they won't necessarily be merged with the trunk, but they are educational nonetheless.
Scott Hanselman has a blog upon Extending NerdDinner that details the addition of Microsoft Entity Framework (MEF) and plugins to ASP.Net MVC at his blog...

Jon Galloway and I have also added a few things to NerdDinner, taking it in a more social direction, as Jon's MVC Music Store today is a better "getting started" sample for ASP.NET MVC 2. We'll be doing a series of posts on the interesting things the community
has added to NerdDinner as well as some of the ones Jon and I added and presented at Mix a few months back. Soon Jon and I will release an updated NerdDinner v2 on CodePlex (although it's been in the source code tab for weeks) with lots of fixes, new features. We'll also add many of these "one off" samples as well and host them on CodePlex.

Office 2010 Launch and a free eBook

First Look Microsoft Office 2010 by Katherine Murray is available for free to download here. According to the author:
This book was written while the software was in development, so you may find some variance in screen illustrations and procedures, but the overall story is the same: The key to the new features is freedom and flexibility—you’ll be able to see how to get more from your applications no matter how—or where—you choose to use them. Office 2010 is designed to help you express your ideas clearly and creatively, work seamlessly with a group to get things done efficiently and on time, and access and work with your files virtually anywhere with a similar look and feel whether you’re using your PC, browser, or phone.
To showcase these key points, First Look: Microsoft Office 2010 follows this organization:

  • Part I, “Envision the Possibilities,” introduces you to the changes in Office 2010 and shows you how you can make the most of the new features to fit the way you work today. Chapter 1, “Welcome to Office 2010,” gives you a play-by-play introduction to new features; Chapter 2, “Express Yourself Effectively and Efficiently,” details the great feature enhancements and visual effects throughout the applications; and Chapter 3, “Work Anywhere with Office 2010,” explores the flexibility factor by presenting a set of scenarios that enable users to complete their work no matter where their path takes them.
  • Part II, “Hit the Ground Running,” focuses on each of the Office 2010 applications in turn, spotlighting the key new features and showing how they relate to the whole. These chapters provide a how-to guide for many of the top features you’re likely to use right off the bat, and they offer inspiring ideas on how to get the most from your favorite applications.
  • Part III, “Next Steps with Office 2010,” zooms up to the big picture and provides examples to help you think through interoperability. How often do you use the various Office applications together? Customer research shows that people often don’t realize how well the applications work together as a complete system—which means they might be laboring over items they could easily incorporate from somewhere else. This part of the book provides examples for integrating the applications and explores Office 2010 security and training opportunities, as well.

Which language should I learn?

Found this on a forum. In response to the question “Which programming language should I learn first?” - one user responds:
Depends.

To program in an expressive and powerful language: Python
To get a website up quickly: PHP
To mingle with programmers who call themselves “rockstars”: Ruby.
To really learn to program: C.
To achieve enlightenment: Scheme.
To feel depressed: SQL
To drop a chromosome: Microsoft Visual Basic
To get a guaranteed, mediocre, but well paying job writing financial applications in a cubicle under fluorescent lights: Java.
To do the same thing with certifications and letters after your name: C#
To achieve a magical sense of childlike wonder that you have a hard time differentiating from megalomania: Objective C

I could go on… but I’m not feeling hateful enough today.
